Political Culture in Japan and the World

 Hello guys,

Today I will be talking about everyones favorite subject, politics. When it comes to how Japan is being ruled ive come to understand they have multiple parties however there is only one that always is in power, the Liberal Democratic Party. When it comes to comparing it to Sweden I would say there are several similarities. In Sweden we also have multiple parties. However the rulling party is often the biggest on the right or left block. In Sweden an election is held every 4th year and in my humble opinion the rulling block changes quite often. This can effect the country negatively since I feel no major changes can be made in a 4 year period as compared to the Japanese politics where the rulling party can make plans for many years ahead.

Sweden also shares other similarities with Japan. The biggest one being the similarity with the royal family in Sweden and the Emperor of Japan. Both are a symbolic head of state and have no real power. Fun fact by the way is that the king of Sweden cant be charged for a crime hahaha. I dont know how the people of Japan think about the emperor but in Sweden a lot of people are against the royal family since they in their opinion doesnt do anything and live on taxpayers money. I dont agree with this at all. I believe the King has a tremendous importance and represents the country in the best of ways. Some examples of this is when a big tsunami hit Thailand and a lot of Swedish people lost their lives, the King was the first to speak to the nation and had a heartfelt speech. Another example is that Sweden is currently trying to make a deal with Canada for them to buy fighter jets from us. The King went to Canada to try and smoothen out the deal by showing up in person. I dont think the emperor of Japan would do that but I lack the knowledge unfortunately.

A difference in politics I find quite humorous is the politics about alcohol. In Sweden the state has monopoly on the alcohol so you can only get in from state owned alcoholic shops when... Here in Japan you have to be 20 or have the courage to press yes on the touchscreen in the conbini. For me, this difference was like a kid going to disney land. I want to add that I dont consume over the average amount of alcohol and you should drink it responsible ;)

I will add a pic of the King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf :)

  2. Good blog. Canada also has a symbolic "head of state," that being the royal family, but it really has no relevance to politics at large in Canada. Interesting read!
